On Saturday, April 26, 2014, OCTAA Turkish School will host its 8th annual celebration of the Turkish National Sovereignty & Children’s Day at the South Coast Chinese Center in Irvine.
On April 23, Turkish Americans and Turks around the world celebrate the 94th anniversary of the establishment of Turkish Grand National Assembly which, under the guidance of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, led to the establishment of the modern Republic of Turkey in 1923. Marked for the first time in 1921 as the Turkish National Day, since 1927, April 23 had also been celebrated as the Children’s Day to signify the role of future generations in realization of the Turkish dream for peace, progress and prosperity. In 1979, April 23 was officially designated as the International Children’s Day, when young people from all over the world gather in Turkey for festivities of peace and fraternity.
On this occasion, the 2013-14 academic year students at the OCTAA Turkish School have prepared a wonderful show of national songs, poems and plays. They would like to share the joy of the Turkish National Sovereignty and Children’s day with the community in Orange County and throughout Southern California. Please, come and join us in our celebrations and celebrate our national holiday with wonderful Turkish food and the spectacular show of our students.
